The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York, commonly known as York Minster, is the cathedral of York, England. The cathedral is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe.

Brief

Our brief was to provide a seating solution for the York Minster Mystery plays to be erected deep inside the historic building itself.

Solution

After some long hours spent in the in-house design office, the Austen Lewis team began installing the ground floor level grid consisting of just over 200 hundred seats. To achieve the main structure of the seating stand, we opted to use our own custom ‘A’ frame system with built in lateral walkway and staircase. All of the further 900 seats installed were fitted with burgundy upholstered seat covers with an exhibition grade carpet added to all gangways, walkways and internal staircase. Finally to hide the internal and external structure of our stand including the custom stairway, we installed a timber frame with black stretch netting to line the walls and to provide a luxurious finish.
